How to Size an Atmosphere Furnace: Work Backwards from Annual Tonnage

Buyers ask for a furnace that does five tonnes a day, and suppliers often just nod. The number carries almost no information: change bulk density, load factor, soak time or uptime and the same chamber gives you half or double the output. This article gives a four-step method that works backwards from annual output to chamber dimensions, with a worked example whose assumptions are labelled, plus the five places the arithmetic usually breaks.

Is Hydrogen Safe in an Atmosphere Furnace? Purge, Interlocks and Exhaust Come First

Hydrogen is increasingly common in atmosphere furnaces because it reduces better than nitrogen, holds a very low dew point and costs less than argon. It is also the most underestimated hazard in the plant: a large chamber with dead corners and an incomplete purge before ignition is all it takes. This article covers the purge sequence, the interlocks that must exist, and the exhaust questions to ask before you buy.

Atmosphere Furnace or Vacuum Furnace: Decide by Oxygen Sensitivity, Then by Output

Vacuum and atmosphere furnaces are not two grades of the same machine. One removes the air, the other replaces it, and that single difference decides achievable oxygen level, production rhythm and which materials you can run at all. This guide walks through material sensitivity, residual oxygen, throughput and running cost in the order that actually filters out wrong options.
